Øksil slår seks serveess og slår seks servefeil i samme sett. Hvorfor sier statistikken at de er 90 % sikre på settseier?
I NM U17 i oktober 2021 møttes ØKSIL og Kolbotn i 1/8-delsfinale for jenter. Jeg har trent noen av jentene på Kolbotn for noen år siden og vet at det er generelt ballflinke jenter som har allsidig bakgrunn i ballidrett fra både fotball og volleyball.
Førsteinntrykket var at servene til ØKSIL var vanskeligere å få tak på enn Kolbotn var forberedt på. I andre sett fikk ØKSIL seks serveess klippet sammen i en videosnutt.
I samme sett produserer ØKSIL seks feilserver klippet sammen i denne videosnutten.
Vi ser at ØKSIL slår serven to ganger i nettet og fire ganger ut over baklinjen. Kolbotn slo ett direkte serveess og slo en serve i nettet. Ser du på dette med et utrent trenerhode så tenker du kanskje at poengdeling 6-6 på ØKSIL sin serve er helt greit og dermed ubetydelig for settresultatet. På samme måte 1-1 for Kolbotn sin serve og dermed like langt. Statistikken sier imidlertid noe helt annet når det gjelder korrelasjon mellom antall serveess og sannsynlighet i den aktuelle aldersgruppen:
Et viktig poeng er også at ØKSIL slår fire av seks feilserver ut over baklinjen. Dette kaller vi positive feil og vil typisk rette seg med mer erfaring fra servelinjen. Det er også en viss sjanse for at en motstander berører eller prøver å spille en slik feilserve. En serve i nettet er en negativ feil som vi ønsker å unngå.
Studerer du rapporten Know the Stats that Matter fra 2020 så vil du finne at antall serveess korrelerer sterkest med sannsynlighet for å vinne et sett i aldersgruppen U17.
Tallene er basert på statistikk fra 40 millioner ballvekslinger og over en million sett i USA. Volleyball i klubb fra 12-18 år samt skolevolleyball på middle school og high school opp til 2. divisjon på college. Det vil si at dette er statistikk basert på vanlige folk som statsministeren ville sagt det.

Statistikken forteller oss trenere hva som er viktig:

Antall serveess er en indikasjon på det servepresset ØKSIL setter på Kolbotn. Selv om antall poeng (serveess og servefeil) er 7-7 i samme sett så er statistikken soleklar. Her er det som skjer i servemottak på de øvrige servene ØKSIL slo inn.
Kolbotn kommer ofte i svært vanskelige situasjoner etter servemottak når ØKSIL presser hardt på serve. Dette settet endte 25-16 til ØKSIL som vant 2-0 her mot Kolbotn og som til slutt fikk bronsemedalje i mesterskapet.
På tvers av alle aldre er de viktigste ferdighetene som korrelerer med settseier rangert som følger:
Selv om serve og mottak alltid er vesentlig så skal du som trener være oppmerksom på at pendelen svinger i forhold til hvordan laget scorer poeng.
